Harvestworks is pleased to present an evening with Julia Christensen, who will share artworks from her current project, Upgrade Available (www.upgrade-available.com). This project explores our complicated relationships with obsolete technology and recordable media, in order to more broadly understand the e-waste crisis of the 21st century. Christensen will present pieces that include self-designed video projectors powered by discarded iPhones, 35mm slides re-drawn on a digital plotter, and piles of old VHS tapes with an auspicious celebrity origin. She will also share documentation from her recent trips to India, where she visited both formal and informal e-waste processing centers. The presentation includes video, sound, images, and Julia’s live presentation. The talk will be followed by a Q & A.
